We are proud to share that the Kwathu Kollective has been selected to participate in Xbox Game Camp Africa 2025, a 12-week immersive program designed to support and elevate African game developers.
Game Camp Africa brings together studios from across the continent to receive mentorship from Team Xbox, refine prototypes, and pitch to the ID@Xbox Developer Acceleration Program (DAP). This year’s program kicks off on December 4th in Cape Town, South Africa, in collaboration with Africa Games Week.
For our founder, Nthanda, being part of Xbox Game Camp Africa feels like a full-circle moment. During her MBA internship at Microsoft, she worked within the ID@Xbox Developer Acceleration Program (DAP), analyzing global markets, supporting indie developers, and exploring opportunities for expansion into emerging regions. That experience gave her firsthand insight into how DAP empowers underrepresented creators — and now, through Kwathu Kollective and Q2, she returns, now no longer as an intern but as a founder, bringing Africa’s stories and systems into the global gaming arena.
For us at Kwathu Kollective, this milestone is deeply meaningful. Our flagship project, Kwathu Smart Innovation Farms, blends real farming systems with simulation gaming to inspire and skill the next generation. Through Game Camp, we have the opportunity to:
- Refine Kwathu Farms the game, aligning it with global publishing standards.
- Learn directly from world-class mentors at Xbox.
- Showcase Africa’s potential in creating globally relevant, locally rooted stories.
- Build stronger bridges between our real-world farm pilots in Malawi and our simulation platform.
We believe this is more than an opportunity for us — it’s a step forward for African creativity and innovation in gaming.
